Tires for a 96 800 SE

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:47 pm

I have a 96 900 SE Turbo. I have the low profile tires that came with the
car. I was told that they would only last 20K miles or so.

What are good replacement tires that have a better lifetime? I am used to
40K – 50K miles from a set of tires. Also, I don’t want to buy different
rims.

Thanks

Scott

  1. I have Michelin Pilot HX tires on my ’94 900SE, low profile, came with the
car, and look great after 48K miles

  3. You guys must really drive slow to get 40+ thousand miles out of a set of
tires. In my own experience I got 15k miles out of the front’s (Goodyear
Eagle NCT2). I currently have Fulda azzuro’s on the front and these wear even
worse. I have decided to accept that virtually no tires I have are going to
    last and plump for Yokohama’s.

  4. In all fairness, I don’t drive slow, and the Michelin Pilot’s have been
great.  I typically drive 70-90 mph on freeways, turn corners hard, and
have done a few autocross courses with them as well.

  6.         You may be more impressed with a Michlen XGT V4 or the Z4. It’s supposed to be an all
season tire.  Better life, but not as impressive as the Pilot. It’s also alot cheaper.

  7. Why bother getting all seasons? – get some good summer tires and get some good winter tires – you
want the best from each season right? Try Toyo’s – I just got a good deal on some 205/55/15′s –
they are great! unidirectional, v-rated, and only $140 each plus tax ($330 for a pair)…they are
supposed to last at least 40 – 60,000 kms.

I have to say though, Michelin tires last a REALLY long time – I put about 140,000 km’s on a set
a few years ago – couldn’t believe it – ok, so the tread was down below the warning indicator,
    but still…….
