  1. Patrick – The noise not so much increases but speeds up with acceleration
and slows down when decelerating. It doesn’t appear to change on cornering
although there is a very slight clicking on full lock right and that sounds
like the left outer cv joint, but i’m mot sure this is the *noise*. Not a
growling noise either – i’ll try listening out when turning direction this
morning – any thoughts greatly appreciated

  2. Well, I bit the bullet and took it in to  city saab E1 London. Turns out to
be a right hand front wheel bearing thankfully plus front wheel alignment
toe in way out ) and left front camber and castor was out. A check on the
final drive showed up nearly no fluid, so caught just in time. The
stethoscope was out, these guys certainlately restored my faith. Car now
drives beautifully – I don’t think I could have worked out / done this as a
home mechanic – very expensive but well worth the trip. Out of interest, in
there experience, they reckoned type 37 auto tranny never gives out as long
as you keep up on the oil changes, we shall see…
