Does anyone know why the 9000 was discontinued in the US? Is it still
available else where in the world?

The production of the 9000 was terminated last year, that’s why.
(but you might still find an unsold ’98 at some dealer…)

YO! Mark and Jan! The man asked WHY the 9000 was discontinued…not IF is
was. We all know its gone…
Chih, since the 9-5 was a much advanced design (although a little boring
compared to the 9000, IMHO) it totally replaced the 9000 in the lineup.
Saab decided to go with new nomenclature since this was a totally new
car…not a redesign. And since the 9-5 is actually several thousand
dollars cheaper than the 9000 of last year, it would not work to have both
of them on the lot.
Plus, Saab is putting a shitload of money and promotion behind the 9-5,
something they never did with the 9000. I think the lackluster sales of the
9000 (at least in the US) was due in great part to the lack of any marketing
out of Norcross on behalf of the car. I remember seeing a TV spot for the
Aero in 1996 and I just about fell out of my chair…first spot for that
model I had EVER seen. Anyway, it was too little, too late. If they had
pushed the 9000 like the are the 9-5 it would be a different story.
Most people in the know refer to the Saab 9000 as automotive’s ‘best kept
secret.’

He also asked if it was discontinued in the rest of the world. Thats the
question I answered.

The last models where made in 1998 for the entire world.
Although someone posted different I thought the 9-5 was the replacement of
the 9000 CD(E)=4-door and they haven’t got a real replacement for the 9000
CS(E)=5-door.
When the 9-5 was launched they stopped producing the 9000 CD but kept on
producing the CS for another year.
Anyway : in order to reply in a direct way on your post (before anyone is
starting to insult again) : it stopped everywhere around the world at the
end of 1998.

They continued with the 9000 CS until the 9-5 Estate Car was introduced,
which they view as its replacement.

Different here in Belgium.
They offered the estate because they had to.
GM gave them a choise : making a jeep or an estate : saab choose the estate.
Here they finished with producing the CS at the end of 1998. The estate was
only released at the end of March 1999.

The last 9000 CS(E) was produced in Trollhättan in May 1998. It was
delivered to the SAAB museum in Trollhättan. In total 503.087 SAAB 9000 were
produced during 1984-1998.
