Saab 900 Turbo 87'. Need advice!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:01 am

I am currently looking for my very first car. (I have been looking for Saab
900 turbo).
I have found a Saab 900 Turbo 87′, 3-door, servo, sun-roof, 193’000 km. The
seller says he has taken very good care of the car.

Can somebody please tell me about the common problems with this car. What
(how) should I be "inspecting" when looking at/trying the car?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know why the 9000 was discontinued in the US?  Is it still
available else where in the world?

bought used Saab, need advice

Advice and/or consoling…

It looks great.  It’s my dream Saab.  A 900 SPG Turbo Convertible, black on
black.  However…

There seems to be more than a few electrical problems.  The stereo only
works occasionally, and usually not when the turn signals are on.  The
dashboard gauge lights don’t work.  The horn works only sometimes.  The HVAC
output selector does not work (air only comes out from the top).  Then today
(my second day with the car), to my horror, the convertible top would not go
back up.

I guess I’m just looking for any advice or suggestions from anyone with
similar experiences.  Also, if anyone knows about a mechanical bypass so
that I can put the top up if the electical motor drive isn’t working, I’d
greatly appreciate it.

I love Saabs and have owned a another 900 for 6 years. Somebody please
reassure me that my dream car isn’t a lemon.

Thanks
Todd

Help, I'm Melting!!!!!!!

Attention all Saab experts. I am experiencing AC problems at the worst
possible time here in the southeast US. Here are the AC problems for my 1991
9000S sauna on wheels (no ACC system):

1)The AC fan only works on the highest setting (4) all other settings are
dead. I took apart the speed selector switch and checked the dry contacts,
they were fine.

2)Although the fan works on high, I only get 5-10 seconds of cool air and
after that it is luke warm.

3)When I have the fan on and make a sharp right turn I get the sound of
water and I get a drips on my right foot.(I figured this is a build up of
condensation because of a clogged condensate drain. Where is it clogged and
how is this remedied?)

4)The only way I get cold air is when I have the air recirculation button
off and have the fan speed control set at a speed other than high meaning
OFF. I am assuming that the compressor is working and I have freon since I
get a minimal volume of cold air and I hear the compressor clicking on and
off (clicks on and off at 7-8 second intervals while I am cruising at 45
mph).

I have begun to take parts of my dash off but I have found that the fan
motor is geniusly placed in an inaccessible place. Please help. I am ruining
my leather seats with all the sweat that has been pouring off and I may die
of heat stroke. I would like to fix this myself and hopefully save the
hundreds of dollars that my independent would possibly charge me.
