1995 900SE questions

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:11 am

I have two fairly "stupid" questions:

1.  I bought  a new bulb for one of my fog lights that needs replacing.
The manual indicates that the fog light cover "pops" off (no
unscrewing).  Is this correct or did I misinterpret it?  And if it
"pops" off, what’s the best way to do this?  It seems pretty securely
fastened.

2. I have the automatic heating/cooling system.  I really like it, but
how do you use it in "manual" mode such that I only want the fan on
blowing outside air through the vents?  The manual doesn’t seem clear on
this to me either.

Thanks,
Jim

Good Do It Yourself Sites

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:11 am

Does anyone know of any good sites on the web or usenet that have good
information and tips on how to maintain and repair your Saab?

I am looking just for basic information on how to do the little things:
oil changes, plugs, filters, etc. myself, and also how to know when to
take the car into the shop for bigger overhauls like seasonal tune-ups
etc.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Please email responses to
delm…@skypoint.com.

Thanks.

Daytime Running Lights…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:10 am

Hey All,
The manual for my 92 900S says that the canadian models have
DRL, but it was an option on the US models. I was looking at the fuse
panel and there is a spot for a DRL relay. I was wondering if the only
difference is the need for that relay to be in place, and if so, is it
a complicated item to find. My reasoning is that I live in NJ and I
need all the insurance breaks I can find =)

A little safety never hurt either!

Shifter

I hate the shifter on my 87 900S and I was wondering if there are any options
as far as modification or aftermarket shifters and boots.
Thanks

Anyone rebuilt a power steering rack ?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:09 am

Has anyone ever rebuilt a power steering rack ? I have an 87 900T that I
replaced the ball joints, tie-rod ends and noticed, during the process,
that there is slight play in the ball joints in the steering rack. Can
this be repaired with common tools and have you done it ? How about
replacing seals etc when I have the unit out ? Help with parts sources
and procedures would be appreciated.

1997 SAAB 900 Woes

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:08 am

I have owned my SAAB for three months now and have the following
problems to list – if anyone could indicate whether they’ve had
similar problems, or whether these are rare problems, would be
appreciated!

1. Rain Gutter

The plastic rain gutter at the base of the windscreen is coming away
from the windscreen on the left and right hand sides (the middle of
the gutter is fixed perfectly.

From what I can see the gutter is actually fixed by the self adhesive
rubber seal that runs along the top of the gutter (and seals it to the
windscreen).

Has anyone else had these problems?

2. Cruise Control

Cruise control is great – when it works. I can’t seem to set the speed
using the push button on the end of the indicator stalk – the cruise
turns on and off OK (according to the dash light) but I can’t set the
speed – when I hit set, accelerate to the required speed, the car
slows down again when I take my foot of the pedal…

Incidentally, I have read that SAAB cruise control doesn’t hold a
constant speed up and down hills… any comments here?

3. Radio Reception

I used to drive a Mazda 121 (bubble car) which featured crisp and
clear radio reception on its standard stereo radio cassette.

Although I haven’t changed my driving patterns, the SAAB seems to be
far more sensitive to tall buildings, and the like, resulting in far
more cracj=kling and hissing than I’m used to.

Could something be a little wrong?

84 900 Gli and unleaded

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:27 am

Hi!

Will an ’84 uk spec 900 GLi run OK on unleaded fuel? I know ’85 models can
handle it, but I’m not sure about earlier cars. Mines a late ’84.
